Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Officers say they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Police then located numerous other vandalized vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state initial examinations indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the public for information.
An important political figure stated the incident made him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
